We have an important singing event…maybe a recital…or you’re singing for a friend’s wedding…or you have a sold-out concert at Madison Square Garden!
As luck would have it, you are feeling the beginnings of a sore throat and overall “sickness.”
Below are some of my suggestions to help speed your recovery. If you have any type of food allergies or medical conditions, you should consult with your doctor first. ♪♪Swallow some honey… It contains healing compounds and soothes sore throat tissue. (Important, honey is not for babies under the age of one!) In fact, you don’t need to feel “sick” to do this.
♪♪Slippery Elm or any lozenge… Lozenges with glycerin, menthol, honey or slippery elm coat the mouth and throat, making it easier to swallow. Thayer’s is a good brand to try and can be found on Amazon or locally.
♪♪Gargle… Mix 1 tsp. salt in a cup of warm water; gargle 30 seconds; repeat often. Salt promotes moisture in irritated tissue and helps flush out bacteria. ♪♪Spritz your throat… Numbing sprays like Chloraseptichelp you eat and drink—and that’s crucial. Your body needs nourishment to create the white blood cells that fight off viruses and bacteria.
♪♪My #1 TIP for maintaining throat health… Drink “Throat Coat” tea proactively, before you get sick. It is made by “Traditional Medicinals” and can be purchased on Amazon or even locally. It is organic and caffeine-free. If you are not a tea drinker and would rather not drink this regularly, try to add it to your regimen about a week prior to any singing gigs that you have (1-2 cups per day).
